"IT IS HARD BEING A HERO"
First of all I want to thank you, the everyday street cop, for being a hero! You are awesome for what you do and we appreciate you!
With that said, being a hero is not easy. It is hard work both physically and mentally. You have to be everything to everybody. You save lives, arrest criminals that are evil to others, give somebody a ride and you are always there to help people who cannot help themselves. I know from personal experience that there are many stories that each one of you could tell about the quiet times you were a hero that no one knows about. I am reminded of a story of a cold winter night around Christmas when an officer responded to a domestic disturbance call where the wife had been badly beaten by her abusive husband. As they sat on the curb crying, not one present was under the tree just a few days before Christmas. When the responding officers asked one of the young children why, he responded, "Because we do not have any money and Daddy said we did not deserve any presents." When all the dust had settled that night one of the officers pulled a $100 dollar bill out of his own pocket to give to the mother for the kids to get some presents. Friend, that is the compassion that makes a true Hero. I know this story to be true because I was on that scene that cold night.
With all the displays of courage you provide each day, it can be easy to overlook the fact that Cops need heroes as well. You might find yourself needing a hero today. Fallen officers in the line of duty are true heroes that we honor everyday but do we ever consider another hero? I would encourage you to consider making Jesus your hero. Why? He paid the ultimate price to be a hero for you. He died on the cross for your sins. He said he would never leave you nor forsake you. I challenge you today to be a hero to your families as well. Sometimes we get so caught up in being everyone else's hero that we forget the most important part of being a hero and that is being a hero at home. A personal relationship with Christ will heal any wounds that you may have in your family life.
You may say, "Timothy, I have been divorced 3 times, there is no way I can see myself being a hero in my personal life." I submit to you that today is a new day and you can start new and with a clean slate. You might say, "Well I have 2 girlfriends on the side and there is no way I can be a hero at home. I am too ashamed. " WRONG!! Philippians 4 verse 13 says, "For I can do EVERYTHING through Christ who gives me strength." You must have faith that the cleansing blood of Jesus can heal all wounds.
Let me tell you a story about faith. In Matthew Chapter 9, Jesus was approached by 2 blind men. Jesus asked them, "Do you BELIEVE I can make you see?" They replied, "Yes Lord, we do." He then touched their eyes and said, "Because of your FAITH it will happen." Then their eyes were opened and they could see. That, friend, is Faith. You must Believe!
In John chapter 8 verse 12 Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." Jesus also said in John chapter 12 verse 25, "Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity."
Also in John chapter 14 verse 6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."
I encourage you today to step out in Faith like the 2 blind men. Do not try to figure everything out with your own intellect. Just step out in faith today and trust in Jesus to be your hero.
Will you pray with me? Father in heaven, give me strength to be a strong and courageous leader. You said in Your word that You would never leave me or forsake me and I truly believe and thank You for giving me comfort. I know that You are bigger than obstacle I am facing and I am going to have faith in Your son Jesus to bring me though any storm that comes against me. I stand against any strife or division that the enemy is trying to plant in my life. I thank You that in due season, this too shall pass. I ask You to allow me to be a hero to my family and to heal and restore broken relationships. We thank You today that we are in Your presence and we ask for these things in the exhaulted name of our hero Jesus Christ, Amen.
